Dr. Jessica Gosnell Named Associate Surgery Clerkship Director
The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce that Jessica Gosnell, M.D. has been named Associate Surgery Clerkship Director.
Dr. Gosnell is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of General Surgery. Her clinical practice is in endocrine surgery, focused on diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands, and acute care surgery. In her research, Dr. Gosnell studies new treatments for thyroid cancer through translational work and clinical trials, with a particular focus on multiple endocrine neoplasia and medullary thyroid cancer.
Dr. Gosnell earned her BA in Biology and French Studies at Wellesley College, and her medical degree at the University of Washington at Seattle. She completed a residency in general surgery at the UCSF-East Bay program and then was appointed as the TS Reeve International Fellow in Endocrine Surgery at the University of Sydney in Australia before joining the UCSF faculty.
Dr. Gosnell brings a wealth of experience in mentorship and surgical education to her new role as Associate Surgery Clerkship Director. As a resident, she received the Hunicutt Resident Award for Excellence in Teaching for two consecutive years. In 2019, she was the recipient of the Haile T Debas Academy of Medical Educators teaching award. She was a longtime PISCES preceptor before becoming a UCSF School of Medicine Bridges Coach in 2016.
Dr. Gosnell will bring experience and passion to this leadership position. She will work with Dr. Matt Lin to support the Department's undergraduate medical education platform.
